Neue Ankunft Cadolzburg

12  /  2015

The aim of this project was to connect different important parts of this town, such as the castle, the historic centre, the town hall, the old stone quarry and the train station in order to unify Cadolzburg and strengthen this town. To fulfil this idea, the inacessible though central quarry appeared like an obstacle.

The main idea of the design is to open the quarry for the population and lead a way through it. The planned route runs as an imaginary extension of the end of the train tracks and thus goes directly into the adjacent quarry. Due to an 8 metre level difference the pedestrians can be literally immersed in the atmosphere of the quarry with the steep sandstone walls on either side. The path requires partial excavation or building up of the slope. The new route is connected to the existing path along the cemetery and leads then to the new town hall square and finally to the castle.

To justify the motto 'New arrival Cadolzburg', the draft also includes the overplanning of the area around the train station, which is partially redesigned and upgraded. Key elements here are improvements of the bike storage capacity (new bicycle sheds are planned) and e-mobility. Moreover, to increase the attractiveness of the area surrounding the station, 2-floor residential houses will be built. In total, 12 new 100 square metre appartments, each with a private garden of 80 to 100 square metres, will be available.
